Seth Carey was indicted by the Oxford County grand jury this week on counts of attempted serious Se**xual assault, attempted aggravated Se**x trafficking, illegal Se**xual contact, prostitution and two counts of domestic battery.
In March, Carey was arrested in a Walmart parking lot in Orange County, Florida, by a team of police officers who had been investigating the allegations for three years.

Former Republican candidate for district attorney Seth Carey has been charged with Se**xually assaulting a woman at his Rumford home more than three years ago.
The Oxford County grand jury delivered the indictment this week against Carey, who has been charged with serious Se**xual assault, attempted aggravated Se**x trafficking, illegal Se**xual contact, prostitution, and domestic assault, according to the Lewiston Sun Journal.
Carey, 46, of Rumford was arrested on those charges in March while in Orlando, Florida. That arrest came after a three-year investigation into allegations that Carey Se**xually assaulted a woman who lived at his Rumford home.
The 34-year-old woman informed the Rumford Police Department that Carey had assaulted her in March 2018, when Carey was running as a candidate for district attorney in Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford counties. Carey has called the allegations against her “unfounded.”

In June, an Oxford County judge granted Carey an order of protection against abuse against the woman, who approached Carey in May at a Rumford football field where his children were playing and allegedly threatened to shoot him.
In 2018, a judge suspended Carey’s license for three years for Se**xual assault, witness tampering and failing to comply with an earlier provisional order. Prosecutors requested his disbarment, although he was temporarily barred from practicing law for months before his unsuccessful offer.
During those proceedings, a woman testified in court in August 2018 that Carey had Se**xually assaulted her while she was renting him a room in 2017. Carey previously represented the woman in court. She alleged that he pressured her to have Se**x for months and once grabbed her by the head and pushed her into her crotch, telling her to perform oral Se**x.
Her suspension was upheld by the highest court in Maine. Last year, he settled with prosecutors who accused him of practicing law without authorization not to engage in further criminal conduct and to comply with the terms of his suspension.
