Later, the police charged Cheung with five counts of using a firebomb and criminal shenanigans that caused property damage at a religious facility. Surveillance footage showed Cheung driving a Toyota Sienna minivan with a distinctive temple-length faceplate, according to the arrest report. Weeks earlier, he had spray-painted “vulgarities” on the temple’s main gate on Sept. 12, detectives said.
The vandalism was not reported to officers at the time, but investigators said Sunday footage showed the same suspect and they were eventually brought to Cheung’s home on Big Torch Street in Riviera Beach after a search of state records. One of the temple residents later identified Cheung as the woman he encountered on September 12, agents said.
A judge set bail for Cheung during a court appearance on Monday. WPTV reported. It is unclear if he has retained an attorney who can speak on his behalf.
