Xavier Ortiz was a Mexican actor, singer, model, producer, TV host, and former member of the musical group Garibaldi. Garibaldi was formed by Luis de Llano Macedo, a Mexican TV producer. Its original members included Ortiz, Sergio Mayer, Patricia Manterola, Paty Montenegro, Charly López, and Katya Llanos. The group’s self-titled debut album was released in 1988 and their last album, Bicentenario, came out in 2010. Their greatest hits include, “Banana,” “La Ventanita,” and “Beats Me.”
Ortiz appeared on numerous TV shows and films, as well as many high profile theatre productions. He was a series regular on the shows, Un gancho al corazo, Duel of Passions, Camila, and Sentimientos ajenos. His last role was playing the role of Romero on the TV series, The Noir Bizarre. Xavier Ortiz died by suicide on September 7, 2020, at the age of 48. His former partner Sergio Mayer Breton announced his death on Twitter. Mayer tweeted: “With deep sadness and great pain, I report the death of my dear brother and great colleague of the Garibaldi Group and actor, Xavier Ortiz. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and the artistic community.”
