A Chattanooga man, Thomas Henshall, Jr., 37, was arrested in Nashville after driving with a dead body, believed to be his mother, Danielle Bowen, 60. Authorities with the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department said Henshall arrived at the Nashville VA Medical Center at 5:15 p.m. Saturday with the body wrapped and / or rolled up in a tarp in the back of his truck.
Henshall claimed that his mother had committed suicide and that he found her in a wooded area of Chattanooga. According to Henshall and his girlfriend, whom he picked up at 8:30 a.m. Saturday with the body already in the truck, they stopped for food, gas and coffee before driving to a VA medical center in Chattanooga and saw that it was closed. They ended up driving to the Nashville VA Medical Center, passing several hospitals and police facilities along the way.
The evidence tampering charge stems from Henshall touching and concealing the victim’s body. During an interview with MNPD homicide detective Madison Meiss, Henshall said he was with his mother when she shot herself; however, he told his girlfriend that he had discovered the victim in the woods. When Henshall was asked how his mother obtained a gun, she invoked Miranda’s rights from her and ended the interview.
Positive identification of the body on the canvas will be done during an autopsy. The homicide unit of the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department has provided information on this case to the Chattanooga authorities and the TBI for the follow-up to the investigation in East Tennessee. Henshall is incarcerated in Nashville on an $ 80,000 bond.
