A manhunt is underway to track down the gunman who opened fire on a car in the Kirkdale area of the city, leaving two men covered in blood. Detectives became aware of the shooting after the victims rushed to the hospital with gunshot wounds and traced a trail of blood to what was thought to be the scene.
Shocking footage has since emerged that appear to capture the moment the suspect shoots the two victims. The gunman can be seen riding down the road on a bicycle, from which he jumps before opening fire in the direction of a parked car. This is the shocking moment when an armed man opens fire in the middle of the street as three men flee for their lives. Police are asking for information after two of them suffered gunshot wounds
Those inside the vehicle attempt to flee on foot, with a man hiding behind the car while being shot, before the driver leaves the scene. The gunman can be seen chasing them down the street and out of sight, firing at least six shots before leaving the frame. Merseyside police learned of the shooting after two men, one in their 20s and one in their 30s, came to Royal Liverpool University Hospital with gunshot wounds to their hands and legs at around 12.50am on Wednesday.
Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, but they remain in the hospital this morning in stable condition, police said. Investigations led detectives to believe they were attacked on Stanley Road, where a trail of blood was found near the junction with Pansy Street. The area was cordoned off and examined by forensic agents on Wednesday and a police cordon was also installed outside of the Royal part.
During the incident, a man can be seen using the car to protect himself from the gunman. Then three men flee the scene on foot with the gunman in pursuit before the car drives away. Since then, images that appear to have recorded the incident have surfaced online and widely shared on social media. Merseyside police have asked for information after the shooting.
Detective Inspector John Fitzgerald, of the force’s firearms investigation team, said: ‘We are working to piece together exactly what happened and are therefore eager to speak with anyone who was in the vicinity of Stanley Road and Pansy Street around midnight and saw or heard anything, be it the shooting itself or anyone driving away from the area, and vehicle details.
“In recent days, a series of firearms have been withdrawn from the streets and in recent months there has been a decrease in this type of incident.
‘To be so successful it is absolutely vital that we obtain all the information from those communities that feel the impact of gun crime, so that we can bring those responsible to justice. Talk to us directly or anonymously and we will act quickly. “
