Cruise, who was a school liaison officer, was found guilty of assault on the boy in Crewe Magistrates Court, which was confirmed in Chester Crown Court after an appeal. Although he withdrew before the disciplinary process concluded, the August hearing found Cruise guilty of gross misconduct and would have been fired if he had remained on the payroll, reported the Echo of Liverpool.
According to a school teacher, on the day of the assault, Cruise tried to intimidate the boy to prevent him from reporting the attack. Cruise was fined £ 800 and ordered to pay £ 100 in compensation, as well as £ 500 in prosecution costs and a surcharge to the victim of £ 85, while his appeal cost him an additional £ 1,620 in court fees.
His sentence was so lenient. He’s a bully, that’s all he is, just a bully. ‘ Speaking previously about the incident, he added: ‘We didn’t even know until Careline called her mother. ‘We didn’t even take him to court, that was the school and the Merseyside police. ‘He has autism and struggles a lot. He is much younger in his head, more like a five-year-old.
He is also small for his age because he had growth problems. The moment the boy tries to crawl through a door while Cruise grabs him by the hood of his jacket. Cruise dragged the boy down the hallway before asking other children if they could hear him cry, a disciplinary hearing was heard. We are all absolutely furious. His days are hard enough.
It is unclear what triggered the assault, as the boy still struggles to talk about the attack with his family. Speaking after the misconduct hearing, Detective Superintendent Cheryl Rhodes of the force’s Professional Standards Department said: ‘The Merseyside Police take the professional standards of their officers and staff extremely seriously.
‘The actions of this officer do not reflect the behavior and standards of our school officials who do a fantastic job day after day. After the incident, all school officials received additional training in conjunction with the Merseyside Police Training Academy, School Improvement Liverpool, and the local authority. “The public rightly has high expectations of our officers and we seek to maintain that and ensure they meet those expectations.
“Unfortunately, on a minority of occasions, when they are not enough, we will take swift and effective steps to ensure we maintain public confidence in the force.”
