Police Chief Derrick Lawalin called Glenn’s death a “tremendous loss” at a press conference covered by WEHT/WTVW and other local media.
“We lost a dear colleague, a dear friend. Sergeant Glenn is…she is a cornerstone of our department,” he said. “We are extremely heartbroken.”
It all started on Sunday, when an unidentified woman was involved in what the Indiana State Police loosely described as a “domestic dispute” with Hubert, according to a statement. The woman made it to Perry County Memorial Hospital for her injuries. Glenn responded and spoke to the woman before leaving the hospital with other officers to search for Hubert, police said.
Things got worse on Monday. According to police, the woman told hospital staff that Hubert was on his way there. All city officers, Perry County deputies, and Cannelton police responded, including Glenn. From there, tragedy followed. The shooting occurred at the hospital, said Indiana State Police spokesman Sgt. John Davis, at the press conference.
Authorities did not detail the circumstances behind the domestic dispute or what they believed Hubert planned to do at the hospital. Glenn worked nearly 20 years for the Tell City Police Department and the Perry County Sheriff’s Office.
“Sergeant Glenn was a highly respected officer and a pillar in her community,” police said. “Tell City Police Chief Derrick Lawalin that Sergeant Glenn was a good friend to all of us and he will be sadly missed but not forgotten.”
“We want to thank our incredible community for their support today as we mourn the line-of-duty death of Sergeant Heather Glenn,” the slain officer’s colleagues also said, announcing Monday that they were putting Glenn’s police vehicle on display at City Hall. of Tell City at 700 Main Street for those who would like to drop off flowers, gifts, or pay their respects to Sgt. in the coming days.
