Patrick Lahey Wiki – Patrick Lahey Biography
Patrick Lahey is the president and co-founder of Triton Submarines. Further concerns about the safety of the vehicle designed to transport passengers to the wreckage of the Titanic have been raised in the wake of the gruesome deaths aboard the Titan submersible. Stockton Rush, an explorer, and engineer, formed the OceanGate company, which built and operated Titan. However, Rush’s sales pitch was characterized as “predatory” by Triton Submarines CEO Patrick Lahey in an interview with The Times.
In the wake of the tragic loss of life aboard the Titanic submersible, more questions have been raised about the suitability of the vessel designed to carry people to the Titanic wreckage.
Titan was produced and operated by a company called OceanGate, founded by engineer and explorer Stockton Rush. The company founder was on board the voyage which suffered a “catastrophic implosion” and also lost his life.
“He could even convince someone who knew and understood the risks…he was quite predatory,” said Lahey, who runs a major submarine maker.
Who is Patrick Lahey?
Patrick Lahey is the president and co-founder of Triton Submarines. He is in charge of the design and manufacture of the Limiting Factor, the only titanium-hulled submersible in the world and the first to receive full ocean depth certification. Patrick and his crew have supplied 11 deep-immersion submersibles to date; each was built and continues to be certified to its original nominal depth.
Patrick started diving in 1975 and through his work on a variety of different projects, he has over 30 years of experience in commercial and underwater diving. Patrick has contributed to the design, engineering, manufacturing, and testing of various underwater vehicles and systems throughout his career, including more than 50 manned submersibles.
Offering excellent display, ease of use, reliability, ease of maintenance, and safety, all of Triton’s yacht-based manned submersibles have been developed under Patrick’s direction.
Lahey had a strong friendship with Paul-Henri Nargeolet, one of the passengers who died aboard the submersible. Lahey stated: “I told him in very candid terms why he shouldn’t be out there. He understood. I think PH somehow thought that by being there he could help these guys avoid a tragedy, but instead, he ended up in the middle of one.”
Finally, Lahey remembered his thoughts on the Titan ship during the time it was built. He claimed that the OceanGate submersible was very different from the submarines that Triton Submarines were producing. “At the very time this monstrosity was being made, it was building the most capable submarines of our era,” he added.
