Underworld sources described Maghnie as a “dead man walking” amid his increasingly aggressive behavior towards rivals in bikie groups and other organised criminal syndicates.
“It was only a matter of time,” one criminal source said. “You can’t do what he did without pissing off a lot of people – people won’t stand for it.”
“Maghnie is also a suspect in the attempted murder of Bandido Toby Mitchell in 2011.”
Charges and Arrested
Maghnie has been shot twice in the past, including in 2016 when he drove himself to hospital after being shot in the head.
He was arrested in November over the killing of drug trafficker Mitat Rasimi but was released without charge.
Cause of Death
Maghnie, a Comancheros associate who was most recently under investigation over the double-shooting at the Love Machine nightclub last April, was shot and killed in the carpark of a Taco Bill restaurant at the intersection of Childs Road and Dalton Road, Epping, about 8.30pm on Thursday
Police confirmed on Thursday night that Maghnie died at the scene.
Two other men were shot and were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One of the men is believed to be one of Maghnie’s sons.
Police helicopter circled the area after police and paramedics attended the scene.
A video showed Maghnie and one other man lying on the ground, topless, being attended to by paramedics.
Emergency workers were called to an intersection at Epping about 8.30pm on Thursday after three people were shot.
Police said a man believed to be in his 40s died at the scene. Two other men who had been shot were taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
“The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting are still to be determined and the investigation is ongoing,” the statement read.
