A suspect has been arrested in connection with this week’s stabbing in Toronto that left a man on a moving subway train with serious injuries. Police responded to the stabbing call shortly after 12:20 p.m. Thursday. According to police, a verbal altercation began as the victim and suspect were traveling southbound near the Eglinton station. After repeatedly stabbing the victim, the perpetrator fled the scene at Eglinton Station, leaving the victim seriously injured.
Suspect arrested in Toronto subway stabbing
Toronto police issued a news release Friday stating that 25-year-old Moses Lewin is wanted for attempted murder. Other charges against him include aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and two counts of disobeying a release order.
A man, believed to be in his 30s, was hospitalized after the stabbing due to serious injuries. Since then, his condition has changed to stable.
Lewin, 25, with no fixed address, was located and arrested on Friday. Lewin is scheduled to appear in court at 10 a.m. today. The suspect may have chased the victim along the subway before it came to a complete stop at Eglinton Station, according to online footage capturing the immediate aftermath of the incident.
Concerns from some transit users about the safety of the subway system have been raised in the aftermath of the stabbing. Several cyclists expressed their shock at the news to CBC Toronto on Friday.
The incident is the latest case of TTC violence in recent months. Gabriel Magalhaes, 16, died in March after being brutally stabbed in an unprovoked incident at Keele station.
