Maureen Van De Water is the wife of Kyle Van De Water, an Army veteran, attorney, and former Congressional candidate from North Dutchess was found dead by police. Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said he met the Republican during Van De Water’s failed race against Democrat Antonio Delgado for 19th place in Congress.

Van De Water grew up in Poughkeepsie and graduated from Spackenkill High School in 1998. He joined the US Army in 2006. In 2011, he earned the Bronze Star while serving in Afghanistan, before earning the Meritorious Service Medal. and an honorable discharge in 2014. according to his website. He held the rank of Major and continued to serve in the Army Reserve JAG Corps.
A 2005 graduate of Albany Law School, Van De Water was a lawyer at Corbally, Gartland, and Rappleyea in Poughkeepsie, according to his Linkedin page, that he settled in Millbrook and served as a village manager.
He was defeated by Delgado in the 2020 general elections, obtaining 44.2% of the votes. In July, he announced a second race to challenge Delgado, only to retire from the race on August 27, saying that “circumstances in my life have changed and I can no longer give 110% for this effort.”
He said he was retiring “For the good of the party and the district … I hope I can vigorously and enthusiastically support the Republican candidate in 2022.”

The circumstances of the 41-year-old’s death were unclear Monday night. Poughkeepsie City Police, who allegedly found him in the rural Poughkeepsie Cemetery, did not respond to messages. Van De Water’s death comes less than two weeks after a second campaign for Congress, which he announced in July, ended abruptly. The former Poughkeepsie resident served in Afghanistan and with the Chief Justice Advocate Corps during his eight years in the Army.

“My heart is broken for Kyle’s children and family. My prayers are with them as they try to face this utter tragedy, ”Molinaro said in a statement. “Kyle was a war hero who risked his life and his well-being for his country. We owe him, his family, and all of our brave servicemen and women all for the sacrifices they have made. ”
