Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw reported that Kimbrady Carriker, a 40-year-old suspected shooter, had been taken into custody. Ella Carriker was allegedly carrying an “AR type rifle”, several magazines, a handgun, a police scanner and a ballistic vest.
The tragic shooting claimed the lives of five people between the ages of 16 and 59. A man arrived at her house four hours later and discovered his 31-year-old son dead from multiple gunshot wounds in the living room. One of the victims was him. The five men killed have been identified as Lashyd Merritt (20), Dymir Stanton (29), Ralph Moralis (59), Daujan Brown (15) and Joseph Wamah, Jr. (31).
According to media reports, families were participating in neighborhood celebrations when a gunman wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a pistol and an AR-style rifle opened fire on people.
Outlaw in a statement said: “We have no idea of the motive behind this incident. Currently, all we can determine is that the perpetrator left his residence with the intent to attack people.”
Tina Rosette, who shared a house with Carriker in Belmar Terrace in 2021, was shocked to learn that she had been named a suspect in the shooting. Cianni, Rosette’s 24-year-old daughter, admitted that she had seen Carriker’s gun firsthand and that he had tried to familiarize her with firearms.
