One of the teenagers accused of raping LSU student Madi Brooks before she died has now been charged with sexually assaulting another girl in 2022 – his third alleged victim.
Kaivon Washington, 18, is accused of raping another young woman who claims he attacked her in October last year after preying on her at Reggie’s, the Tigerland bar where he met Brooks on January 15. The victim in the October case says she was too drunk to go home so asked if she could stay at one of Washington’s friend’s apartments.
According to his arrest affidavit, they all went back to the home together, where she and the friend started having sex in front of Washington. The friend allegedly became more ‘aggressive’, pinning her down and ignoring her as she pleaded with him to ‘stop’.
Washington was watching but then approached and felt the victim’s breast and vagina, the affidavit claims. The alleged incident is the third accusation of rape to have been made against Washington.
In addition to Brooks, he is accused of raping a 12-year-old girl in 2020. In that case, Washington is accused of followig the young girl home after a pool party, pulling her towel from her and raping her.
Both she and the alleged victim from the October case came forward after learning of his involvement with Brooks, who died less than an hour after being raped when she was struck by a rideshare car.
She had met Washington and his co-defendants – Casen Carver, 18, and Everett Lee, 27, and an unnamed 17-year-old – in Reggie’s. They had all been drinking but Brooks was so intoxicated she couldn’t stand up for long, according to surveillance footage from inside the bar.
The group got in Carver’s vehicle, where Brooks and Washington had sex in the backseat. He insists it was consensual; prosecutors say she was beyond the physical and mental threshold of being able to consent to sex.
Washington and the unnamed 17-year-old were both charged with third degree rape; the younger boy also had sex with her, taking turns with Washington. Afterwards, the group dropped her off in the middle of a roadway, leaving her in the street.
It was there that she was struck and killed by a rideshare vehicle less than an hour later. Carver and Lee were both charged with witnessing the alleged rape but doing nothing to stop it. They are all awaiting their next court appearances.
