Jeremy Clarkson Wiki, Biography

Amazon Prime has reportedly fired English broadcaster Jeremy Clarkson after he made some controversial comments about Meghan Markle. According to Variety, Prime will not work with the 62-year-old beyond the shows and seasons already ordered on the streaming service. So Clarkson might not appear on any new shows after 2024.

Clarkson currently appears on shows like The Grand Tour with Richard Hammond and James May, and Clarkson’s Farm. The shows that are currently in the works will continue, and Clarkson’s Farm will finish its third series in 2024.

What did Jeremy Clarkson say about Meghan Markle?

On December 8, 2022, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s documentary series Harry & Meghan premiered on Netflix and garnered a stern reaction from critics, including Jeremy Clarkson.

In an opinion piece written for The Sun, which has since been deleted, Clarkson made some vile comments (via CBS News) about the Suits actress, claiming that he stays up at night: “Gritting my teeth and dreaming of the day she [Meghan] parades naked through the streets of every town in Britain as the crowds chant ‘Shame!’ and throw piles of excrement at it.”

He also added that everyone in his age group “thinks the same way” and that his appeal to the younger generation who “thinks she was a prisoner at Buckingham Palace” made him “get desperate”.

The Sun article received a strong backlash, with more than 20,000 complaints lodged against it with the UK’s Independent Press Standards Organisation, which is responsible for upholding the standards of newspapers and magazines. On January 16, Jeremy Clarkson released a statement via his Instagram account addressing what was behind his controversial post and apologizing for it.

He began his lengthy statement by sharing that he usually reads his work to someone before submitting it, but for this particular article, he was in a hurry and home alone that day and “just hit send.” He shared that when the column appeared on the site the next day, “the land mine exploded.”

He said that he was referring to a scene from Game of Thrones while describing Meghan Markle, but he forgot to mention her in the article. Clarkson said that he had been accused of all sorts of things except sexism and that he was very angry with himself for it.

“I was mortified and so was everyone else. My phone went crazy. My very close friends were furious. Even my own daughter took to Instagram to report me.” He added that he had even sent Harry and Meghan an electronic apology on Christmas morning.

“I said that he was baffled by what they had been saying on TV, but that the language he had used in my column was shameful and that I was deeply sorry.” As of this writing, Amazon has not officially announced the severing of ties with Jeremy Clarkson.
