James Brick Wiki – James Brick Biography
TikTok may be known for subjecting young people to dangerous and life-threatening challenges from time to time, but this time, it managed to save a life. The viral emergency hand signal on TikTok ended up saving the life of a teenage girl, who was abducted by an alleged pedophile from her home in Asheville, North Carolina. On November 4, 2021, Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies in Kentucky arrested 61-year-old James Brick on suspicion of kidnapping the young woman. He managed to alert other drivers from Brick’s car by using the emergency manual signal, intended for victims of domestic violence.
The girl, whose identity has not been released, told police that she was abducted by Brick from her Asheville home. The alleged pedophile then drove through Ohio, Tennessee, and Kentucky before police intervened. Another driver noticed his hand signal and alerted Laurel County police. Meanwhile, the girl’s parents had also reported her missing.
James Brick Arrested – Charged
If you’re an avid TikTok user, you’ve likely seen dramatized videos, where women alert passersby to their danger by making a quirky hand signal. As specified by the Women’s Funding Network, the signal involves the victim raising the palm of the hand and inserting the thumb, then lowering the fingers to give the illusion that her thumb is “trapped.” The signal resembles a clenched fist to any viewer and alerts them to the communicator’s domestic abuse.
The kidnapped girl, in this case, was seen waving at Brick’s silver Toyota. “It was learned through the investigation that the passenger was a minor reported missing, reported by her parents Tuesday morning missing from Asheville, North Carolina. A check through the NCIC confirmed that she was a person reported missing.”, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
After being rescued by police, the girl revealed that Brick had taken her to her family’s home in Ohio. However, he left with her again after Brick’s family realized that she was a minor. She started doing the hand gestures as he drove back to North Carolina on Interstate 75.
Later, police also found “a young woman in a sexual manner” portrayed on Brick’s phone. Brick has been charged with kidnapping and possession of child pornography and is currently incarcerated at the Laurel County Correctional Center.
