Authorities said one of the fugitives, Eric Abril, was captured Monday afternoon. April is charged with murder and shooting with police in Northern California. Chadwick Shane Mobley, 42, has been named the latest fugitive to escape.
Authorities said two of the three murder suspects who escaped custody in separate incidents that occurred across the country in a four-day period were the subject of separate manhunts Monday afternoon.
Who is Eric Abril?
Authorities said one of the fugitives, Eric Abril, 35, was captured Monday afternoon not far from the hospital from which he fled early Sunday. April is charged with murder and shooting with police in Northern California.
Chadwick Shane Mobley, 42, has been named the latest fugitive to escape. He is suspected of fleeing from authorities in Montana on Sunday while being transported to Michigan to answer for the 2011 murder of a 20-year-old woman who was discovered shot to death in the basement of a relative’s home, authorities say.
Abril, who was described by investigators as a “very dangerous fugitive,” was captured at 12:45 p.m. in a residential area of Rocklin, California, approximately 6 miles from the hospital from which she escaped.
Abril was arrested on April 6 after he allegedly killed one hostage and wounded another while holding two other people hostage in a park while he donned bulletproof vests and participated in an ambush. He was wounded during a shootout with law enforcement officers, according to authorities, and was later taken into custody.
April was transferred to Sutter Roseville Medical Center in Roseville, the facility from which he escaped, on Thursday for an undisclosed medical issue, according to Placer County Sheriff Wayne Woo. A huge manhunt was already underway for murder suspect Michael Burham, who was more than 2,000 miles away in northern Pennsylvania, when April escaped.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, Burham, 34, escaped from the Warren County Jail in Pennsylvania on Thursday night. Burham is a suspect in a murder and rape case in Jamestown, New York.
