Elsa Mikeska‘s family was joined by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and HPD Chief Troy Finner at a press conference, where the Mayor announced that an additional $ 10,000 will be allocated to the reward to find the killers of Mikeska.
The family of a 62-year-old grandmother killed outside a gym in southeast Houston is asking for the public’s help in finding her killers. “I have raised an additional $ 10,000 to add to the $ 5,000 reward offered by Crime Stoppers,” Turner said. “Someone knows something about what happened.”
Mikeska, a great-grandmother, has been described as passionate about “her family, her faith, her friends and the most precious gift of all were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren”. James Crowder Funeral Home wrote: “Her children, Stephen Mitchell and Brandon Michael Mikeska, passed away before her; parents, Alicia García Arredondo and Eugene R. Arredondo; brothers: Rodney and Randy Arredondo.

Elsa Mikeska Shot and Killed – Suspect Arrested
Two minors have been charged with the senseless murder of an elderly woman outside a gym at 10570 Fuqua Street in Houston. Elsa Mikeska was killed on June 17 after she parked her vehicle outside a gym at around 4.50 am on June 17. Supposedly, her suspects approached her before one of them shot her.
In a news release, the Houston Police Department said both teens were charged with charges related to the 62-year-old woman’s death. However, since they are both minors, their names were not released. One of the 16-year-old male suspects was arrested on June 25, while the second was taken into custody this week before they were both charged.

Quoting Sgt A Lopez of the HPD Homicide Division and Detectives N Sharp, the press release read: “Ms. Mikeska parked her vehicle in a gym parking lot at the previous address when the suspects (a driver and two passengers) parked her SUV near her and two of them got out of her vehicle. As Mikeska walked towards the gym entrance, the suspects appeared to call out to her. Mikeska, realizing they were trying to steal her, ran into the gym. One of the suspects fired once, hitting Mikeska who collapsed near the gym entrance. The suspects then returned to her truck and fled the scene to the south on Beamer Road. ”
Police also said the two defendants were initially believed to be “Hispanic males in their early 20s.” But later, it was discovered that they were teenagers. In addition, authorities described the suspects’ vehicle as “a white Chevrolet pickup.” They also previously posted crime scene surveillance footage so the public can help them catch suspected criminals.
Reports say the two suspects along with another were also charged with aggravated robbery. The press release noted: “In addition, approximately one hour prior to this incident, an aggravated robbery was reported at 10100 Freehill Street. The robbery victim described suspects matching those in Mikeska’s fatal shooting. According to the victim, the suspects tried to steal her vehicle, but were unsuccessful because it was not working. The same suspects, in addition to a third underage suspect, were also referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation Authorities on charges of aggravated robbery for their role in the robbery incident. ”
