Dylan Arrington was killed during the clash after police tracked him down to a house where he had barricaded himself. The property caught fire shortly after the police standoff in Leake County, Mississippi, and it’s unclear if he died from the gunfire or the flames. One of the four men who daringly escaped from a Mississippi jail and allegedly killed a pastor hours later has died in a two-hour police standoff.
He was one of the inmates, along with Casey Grayson, 24, Gorey Harrison, 22, and Jerry Raynes, who escaped from the Raymond detention center on Saturday. Police are still searching for the other three fugitives. Arrington was also suspected of killing Pastor Anthony Watts, 61, on Monday after his daring escape from prison. The inmate allegedly stole a motorcycle, crashed it, and then killed Watts, who had stopped on the road to help him after the collision.

Dylan Arrington Allegedly Shot and killed after police standoff
Police say Arrington shot the Good Samaritan and then sped away from him in his red Dodge Ram pickup. The alleged murder of Watts, who was pastor of St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church in D’Lo, Mississippi, occurred at 7 p.m. m. of Monday.
During the police shooting Wednesday morning, Arrington shot an officer before being struck himself. It is not clear how the house ended up engulfed in flames.
Footage from the scene shows the structure in flames, as the inferno destroyed the entire building, burning the roof completely. Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said Wednesday: “We have a pretty strong feeling that he is the one inside this residence.”
“While the home was engulfed in flames, we believe he retreated to another side of the residence and began shooting out of a window on the other side of the residence, which is when law enforcement returned fire.
We believe the individual was possibly struck, but of course, we don’t have that information at this time. Whether he was shot or died as a result of the fire remains to be determined. Leake County Sheriff Randy Atkinson said that after troopers tracked him to the home, an officer searched the premises and ran out of the residence yelling that Arrington was inside.

That’s when the individual began shooting from inside the residence and shot my deputy,” Atkinson confirmed. The deputy, who was shot in the lower right leg, is in the hospital, but he is believed to be in stable condition. The 7:10 a.m. police confrontation with Arrington lasted two hours before it was resolved, police confirmed. Arrington had originally been in jail on charges of carjacking and weapons possession.
The four inmates escaped from jail through breaches in a cell and ceiling on Saturday, and it was only at a 12:30 a.m. headcount Sunday that officers realized they were missing.
