Davis Martinez: Maryland Sex Offender Suspected of Killing His Parole Officer Captured in West Virginia

A convicted sex offender suspected of killing his Maryland parole officer and fleeing was captured Saturday afternoon hundreds of miles away in West Virginia. Maryland Parole and Probation agent Davis Martinez, 33, went to conduct a resident visit on Friday at the home of 54-year-old Emanuel Edward Sewell in Chevy Chase, as CrimeOnline reported. When he didn’t report back to work, Montgomery County police were sent to check on him.

They found Martinez dead in Sewell’s apartment and Sewell gone. Police said Martinez’s state-issued vehicle was parked outside, according to WTTG, which said that Sewell had been released after serving 25 of his 29 year sentence and was due to come off the conditions of his release in October 2025.

An autopsy ruled the death a homicide and said that Martinez had “multiple injuries,” Montgomery County Police said.

Police said the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force conducted a traffic stop after locating Sewell’s vehicle on Interstate 64 near Hurricane, West Virginia, about 375 miles from Chevy Chase, and took him into custody.

Sewell is charged with second degree murder in the death of Martinez, a six-year veteran of Maryland’s Public Safety and Correctional Services Department.
