Bret Edge Wiki – Bret Edge Biography

Bret Edge began the absence Monday under the Family Medical Leave Act, a city spokesperson confirmed to Fox News. It was not immediately clear how long Edge will be out of his position and who will replace him as interim boss.

Last Thursday, Moab city officials announced an investigation into a “possible violation of police department policy” during the August 12 response to the young couple outside Arches National Park after reports of a possible domestic assault at the Moonflower Community Cooperative.

A person who called 911 told police that he saw a man slap a woman outside the cooperative. Bodycam footage shows a hysterical Petito and a quiet laundry room talking to police, and the cops are considering the charges against Petito after noticing scratches on his boyfriend’s face.

Bret Edge on leave amid probe into department’s handling of Gabby Petito incident

Moab City Police Department Chief Bret Edge took a leave of absence amid an investigation into the department’s handling of a “domestic dispute” between Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie, according to a report. The agency has come under fire after they separated the couple at night, but allowed them to continue their journey across the country.

Officers helped secure a hotel room for Laundrie while Petito slept in her truck. Petito was last seen about two weeks later and her remains were found on September 19 in Wyoming. Laundrie, who returned to Florida without his girlfriend in his truck on Sept. 1, is now the target of a massive manhunt.

He was indicted last week on federal fraud charges for allegedly using a debit card that did not belong to him in Wyoming in the days after he disappeared. Edge applied for a license under the Family and Medical Leave Act, according to Moab communications manager Lisa Church.

“The city cannot provide additional details or comment,” Church said in a statement.

The Moab Police Department has been the subject of media attention recently for the case of Gabby Petito, a 22-year-old woman who was found dead in Wyoming on September 19 after being missing for several weeks. However, there is no indication as to whether Edge’s leave of absence or the timing of it is in any way related to the case.

Edge said last week that the department would seek an independent review of the investigation into a domestic incident involving Petito and her then-fiancé Brian Laundrie.

Moab police spoke with Petito and Laundrie near Arches National Park on August 12 after someone reported seeing a man slap a woman outside a grocery store before the couple left. Officers did not arrest Petito or Laundrie, but arranged for her to stay at a hotel rather than stay with Petito in the van they used to travel.

Church said last week that she was not aware of any violations of police department policy by officers investigating the incident. Edge said the investigation would be done at the request of an outside party, but she did not elaborate. We take all complaints seriously and are committed to fully address these concerns,” the chief said last week when he announced that the department would seek further review of the incident.

Church said at the time that it had not been decided which agency would carry out the review and that the scope or deadline for the investigation had not been determined. The city hasn’t offered any updates since announcing the review.
