Annie Williams Wiki – Annie Williams Biography

Annie Williams is the wife of Lee Williams, was an American quartet gospel group originating from Tupelo, Mississippi, which has been in existence since 1968. The group began recording around 1970. The gospel quartet includes Lee Williams as lead singer, Al Hollis as guitarist and backup singer, Patrick Hollis as a background singer. Leonard Shumpert as second lead vocalist and new full-time bassist Tommie Harris. Lee Williams was the co-lead singer along with Willie Ligon.

Lee Williams and Spiritual QC went from being a part-time gospel group to recording the year. The group’s first recordings were a series of 45 rpm records on the Designer label in Memphis, Tennessee. The singles used to be led by Willie Ligon and Lee Williams, who was primarily the bassist of the group. After Ligons’ departure from the group, Williams took over the main duties and the group’s name changed to include his leading name. His first national recording was in 1996 on the Georgia-based gospel label MCG Records. “Jesus Is Alive And Well” was his first album, which included the smash hit “He Learned to Lean.” His second album, “Love Will Go All the Way”, was released in 1998, which included some songs from his first album and set the stage for his third album, released in 2000, called “Good Time”. This reached the Top Ten on Billboard’s Gospel Albums Chart in November.

During the following year, the group won Traditional Quartet of the Year at the Excellence in Gospel Music Awards and was nominated for Best Gospel Album at the Soul Train Music Awards. In 2002, the group recorded their fourth album entitled “Right On Time” at The Temple Of Deliverance Church in Memphis, Tennessee. When the recording was finished, the album was released to the public in the spring of 2003. In 2005, they released their fifth album titled “Tell the Angels” in Memphis again. In 2006, they released a compilation of songs under the album name “Soulful Healing.” In the 2000s they went to SoulLink Live! then the second, then the third. In 2007, they released “So Much To Be Thankful For”. They made a few other compilation albums, including “My Brother’s Keeper” and “The Collection” in 2009.

In 2009, they released their seventh album titled “Fall On Me”. They let a member of the first two albums named Roger McKinney sing Background Vocals in a song called “Another Chance.” In 2010, they released another compilation album titled “Through The Years”. In 2011, they released their eighth album entitled “Living On The Lord’s Side” at Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, which again had songs from Jesus Is Alive And Well. It had some songs from Good Time and some other songs from older albums. They let Willie Ligon sing a song called “Call Him.” In 2015, they made their last album, another compilation titled “Memphis Gospel, Live!”

For the remainder of their singing time, they went to many southern venues, often beginning with Leonard Shumpert’s “I’m Gonna Make It.” Lee Williams withdrew from the group after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. They did a retirement concert with Lee’s son, C.C. They also brought in a member to sing “Running For My Life”. Al Hollis didn’t feel like coming that day, but his son Patrick brought him along anyway. At the time, Lee was really only standing in one place. Al Hollis suffered a stroke and was also forced to retire. Williams’ son (C.C. Williams) came on board and the group continues.
