A 19-year-old man was taken into custody by the Wichita Police Department in connection with the shooting that took place early July 2 at the City Nightz Club in Old Town. The man has been identified as Ameir King-Ingram.
According to media reports, eleven people were injured as a result of the incident, nine of whom were injured after being shot and two of whom were crushed in their rush to leave the club.
Who is Ameir King-Ingram?
Ameir King-Ingram is a 19-year-old arrested for a mass shooting at the City Nightz club in Old Town, Wichita. In a Wichita Police Department news release, officials confirmed the arrest. He was arrested on suspicion of two counts of aggravated battery and one count of criminal possession of a firearm by a felon. Although King-Ingram is now the only person charged in connection with the violent crime, the department has already made two arrests in connection with the case.
Prior to this arrest, police officers arrested a 31-year-old Missouri man identified as Brandon Young. He was also accused of firing shots inside the City Nightz club. However, Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett said Thursday that no charges would be filed against Young.
Bennett stated that Young acted in self-defense in response to being shot by other gunmen. The decision not to press charges was made after analyzing video footage from inside the club.
The Wichita Police Department praised the hard work and dedication of the Assault Crimes Section detectives, who have been tirelessly investigating the case since the shooting occurred. His efforts led to the identification of Ameir as an additional shooter.
In a statement, the police department said that Chief Sullivan will take all necessary administrative steps to prioritize the safety of our citizens and visitors in our community and will hold all shooters accountable.
