Allison Abitz and her daughter Jozee Abitz are believed to be victims of murder. Authorities in central Missouri are investigating the deaths of a 43-year-old woman and her 11-year-old daughter, found dead Sunday night when relatives were unable to contact them.

Investigators have not revealed the cause of death or explained why they believe the Abitz were killed. “I cannot say how it was determined that they were homicides, but I can say that it was due to the evidence found at the scene,” he added. Sheriff’s Office Capt.Brian Lear told the News-Tribune.

The sheriff’s department said investigators believe the Abitzes are homicide victims. Neighbors told ABC 17 News that the Abitzes moved in a few months ago. County records show Allison Abitz owned the home. Allison Abitz was a second-grade teacher at Bush Elementary School in Fulton.

Venessa Nelson, a mother of 5 at Bush Elementary, said: “All I know is that Allison was the sweetest teacher ever and my kids loved her. She was a very sweet soft-spoken teacher whom her students loved. The Bush staff and the Bush family will truly miss her. ”The department said she has not arrested or charged any suspects.
