Two murderers who stabbed to death the son of a Tory party activist as he ran to Waitrose because they thought he was a gang rival face life in prison.Sven Badzak, a 22-year-old aspiring lawyer, was ambushed by a gang of six teenagers and killed in an attack that lasted just 20 seconds.Rashid Gedel, 22, and Shiroh Ambersley, 22, stabbed Badzak four times while kicking and punching, and stabbed his 16-year-old friend in the back.
Former Conservative Party activist Jasna Badzak said she went to Waitrose to buy orange juice when her son was attacked in Willesden, northwest London.Mr. Badzak, who received a private education at Wetherby and Portland Place schools before attending Roehampton University, could not be rescued despite the best efforts of bystanders, paramedics and police.His friend, now 19, did not feel he had been stabbed in the back and managed to run to a Tesco store on Willesden Lane to seek help. He later underwent treatment for a collapsed lung.
Gedel was identified through security cameras and bragging on social media after the attack.He has been convicted of 13 counts, including robbery, possession of knives, possession of counterfeit money, threatening conduct and assault.Meanwhile, Ambersley claimed that she had no intention of harming Badzak, but that she was after him because she wanted to sell him cocaine. He has ten convictions for crimes that include fighting and possession of a knife. Gedel and Ambersley denied this, but were found guilty of killing Mr. Badzak.
They were also found guilty of injuring a young friend of his with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, but were acquitted of attempting to kill him after a month-long Old Bailey trial.The jury found him guilty by a majority of 10 to 2 at 25 hours and 46 minutes.Gedel chose not to go to court today to hear the verdicts.Judge John Dodd, KC, requested pre-sentence briefings, saying, “Both are young men about to begin very long prison terms.”Harvey Canavan, 19, admitted at the start of the trial that he had murdered Mr. Badzak and unlawfully injured his friend.
He has a conviction for six crimes, including robbery and bodily harm, and was released on bail for robbery and battery at the time of the murder.
Lior Agbayan, who is said to have been involved in the attack, fled abroad after the stabbing and his extradition to England is being sought. All three had knives, but I remember one of them walking past me. I knew I had a knife, but I didn’t really feel it.I didn’t know if it was going [for me], I just ran.” I crossed the road to Tesco. I ran straight to the counter and said that I had been stabbed, yelling for help.The guy at the counter took me to the back. The security guard took me to his office and then he put me to bed and called an ambulance ”.
Stating that he regularly plays soccer in the neighbourhood, the youngster said: “There has never been a problem there before. He had never seen such people before.”On the day of the attack, Gedel and Ambersley entered a Wenzel bakery near Willesden Lane.Mr Orchard said: “Security cameras caught Gedel entering the store, walking to the right of the two young men and apparentlyinspecting them before leaving. He later rejoined Amersley, nothing was bought.We believe that Gedel and Ambersley were looking for a teen or teenager for the group they were with and found it.
