University academic Caerwyn Ash, who appeared as a contestant on the BBC cooking show in 2016, has been arrested after being accused of possessing child sexual abuse images. A former MasterChef quarterfinalist has threatened to leak ‘explicit’ images of police officers unless child sexual abuse charges against her are dropped, a court has heard.
But the court heard that Ash, 41, tried to pervert the course of justice by threatening to release ‘explicit’ photos of police officers unless her case was dismissed. But a court heard that officers raided his partner’s home and seized several electronic devices in April 2019. Prosecutor James Wilson said images of child abuse and videos of bestiality were found on a hard drive and a computer tower of a garden office.
Wilson said: “The day before Ash was due to appear in the magistrate’s court, he went to Swansea police station with a letter addressed to the ‘Head of CID’. Swansea Crown Court heard that in the letter Ash asked for the removal of the charges against you.
Wilson told the court that he would “create an earthquake” by posting compromising material involving police officers engaging in sexual acts. He said: ‘Ash said she would use a trusted friend in the Press Association to bring the material into the public domain.’
Ash, of St Thomas, Swansea, denies nine counts of possession of indecent images, prohibited images, and extreme pornography, and one count of attempting to pervert the course of public justice. Prosecutor Wilson said 20 images and five videos of child abuse and 50 images and 35 videos involving bestiality were found on a hard drive.
Officers also found a computer tower containing 30 child abuse images and one video, as well as 28 images involving animals and five videos. The crimes are alleged to have taken place between 2005 and 2019. Ash is defending himself in the trial at Swansea Crown Court, which is expected to last three weeks.
