Gerry Layton Wiki – Gerry Layton Biography

Royal fan Gerry Layton will eat a piece of Charles and Diana’s 42-year-old wedding cake to celebrate the Coronation. Gerry, 63, has decided that there is no greater royal occasion to enjoy fruitcake with marzipan icing than the coronation of a new king. And he says that he will begin the big day by having it for breakfast to commemorate the coronation of King Charles.

Around 20 wedding cakes were made for the historic royal wedding in July 1981. The 8 x 7-inch section Gerry owns is believed to have been cut from the cake given to the royal staff to thank them for their efforts after the wedding.

The cake is believed to have been given to Moya-Smith, a member of the Queen Mother’s staff. She kept it preserved in cling film before her family sold it in 2008.

Gerry Layton Age

Gerry Layton is 63 years old.

Gerry, a London yacht skipper, paid nearly £2,000 for it in 2021 and has been reluctant to tuck it in. He said: ‘You could call me a crazy royalist, I have the royal shield with the coronation flag flying outside my house at the moment.

‘This is going to be a very expensive breakfast, a slice of one of the most iconic cakes in the world. ‘There’s a lot of cake attached to the marzipan base of the frosting, so I took a few bites. ‘It still had flavor, although it was quite dry after 42 years.

“I didn’t have any side effects from my snacks, so I’ll have a proper portion to celebrate on coronation day.” ‘The rest of the cake I will keep in its box and sell it with the rest of my collection for charity after I die.

‘I couldn’t be more excited for the coronation, I think the whole country will join in the celebration. “I am not going to swear my allegiance because I have been doing it all my life with my love for the monarchy.

“The monarchy is what makes Britain special, the pomp and gaiety we can get from them give us worldwide attention. “This will get Britain back on the world stage, where we belong.” Gerry intends to spend the day in London watching the parade before captaining a luxury coronation party on one of his yachts on the River Thames.
