Kwabena Osei-Poku was found with serious stab wounds on South Bridge Road in Northampton at around 8:40 p.m. m. on Sunday, April 23. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the University of Northampton student was pronounced dead at the scene. Kwabena, affectionately known as Alfred, was originally from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, and was studying at the Digital Marketing and Advertising Foundation. Northamptonshire Police said nine people had been arrested in connection with her death while investigations continue. Since then, two men, aged 19, and two women, aged 18, have been released on police bail.

Three 19-year-old men, an 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman continue to be questioned by detectives in police custody. Detective Inspector Simon Barnes said: “Our thoughts are with Kwabena’s family and friends at this terrible time. I am truly grateful for their support thus far and want to reiterate to them and the local community that our focus remains solely on bringing those responsible for this crime to justice.
“Detectives from across the region continue to work on this investigation and multiple lines of inquiry are being pursued. “However, I would continue to appeal to anyone with information or images of the incident to come forward and speak to us.

A police spokesman added: “Anyone with concerns is more than welcome to approach these officers who will be happy to help.” The University of Northampton Vice-Chancellor Anne-Marie Kilday said the staff was “heartbroken” by the “senseless” death of the student.
She said: ‘We are now, after consultation with Northamptonshire Police, in a position to name the student who died on New South Bridge Road on Sunday 23 April. “We are heartbroken by the senseless death of Kwabena Osei-Poku, affectionately known as Alfred.
“I heard from Alfred’s Digital Marketing and Advertising Foundation tutors, who told me that he was working on a project investigating the growth of technological tools used in marketing and that he was well on his way to succeeding in his studies.

His fellow students and the entire staff at the University of Northampton are devastated by this news and we once again extend our deepest condolences to his friends, family, and all who knew him. “Now we will focus on supporting the university community as we try to deal with this tragic loss of life.”
Floral tributes were also left at the scene, with one reading: ‘For KB, it was a shock that you were taken away. You were always so kind and loving.
