Schmitz told Carol Daniels of St. Louis Today: “I was able to speak to him this morning, his son was killed in the explosion yesterday. The Marines arrived at 2:30 a.m. to deliver the terrible news. He added: “I wanted to be in a situation where it really made a difference in what your role was within the Marine Corps; I was excited to have that opportunity.
