Ryan Reynolds feels “genuinely lucky” to have the support of his soulmate, Blake Lively, in finding his Ted Lasso dreams. ET’s Kevin Frazier chatted with Reynolds and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star and Wrexham AFC co-owner Rob McElhenney ahead of the launch of their new docuseries, Welcome to Wrexham, about buying a Welsh soccer club and having to his “dearest friends”. next to him for everything.
“I realized endless stories,” shares McElhenney. “This was during the pandemic and there wasn’t a lot of sports on TV so I was going back and watching old games. I am addicted to looking at any kind of game. They were a movement of different stories, and Sunderland was one of them, Maradona’s story was exceptional.
“Also, I just saw this many qualities divided between the organizations that involved the clubs,” he continues. “I felt like I knew those people, I grew up with those people, I was one of those people. I treasured the Philly sports meetings, as much as I could see that people loved their meetings.”
While Reynolds’ life partner of nearly 10 years, Lively didn’t quite understand her partner’s decision to buy a Welsh party, it all clicked for her after the party’s posh match at Wembley Stadium.
“We were lying in bed after the Wembley game, and it wasn’t even a particularly exciting game, we lost one and nothing, it wasn’t the result we really wanted,” Reynolds audited. “We have Beckham, Will [Ferrell] it’s there, it’s basically — — the air at Wembley is electric, and you talk to a portion of these players, and they said their whole life could be spent as a specialist contender, and never get into that field, in this sense, it’s colossally a second beloved.”
“Anyway, after the match, we were lying down [there] and she said, ‘I get it.’ I was like, ‘What do you mean you get it?’ She said, ‘As of right now I’m just as focused, though maybe no more than you are, on this club and this neighborhood, this city, and everything in it and where it can go’, as she’s basically as focused as me. I am,” she adds. “She is at this point, for example, looking at the plans reliably, considering which games she can participate in, in that sense, it is ideal.”
While the custom does hold a place in Wrexham’s Welsh social class, both Reynolds and McElhenney tell ET that they’re investing some brave energy in respecting the custom, while similarly basically being as fair as possible about it. to recap this. meeting history.

“We certainly see that he intended to be a part,” McElhenney says of the hesitation and reaction of Wrexham fans to both his property and the show. “The core thing we can do is continue to be as genuine as could really be anticipated, put our hearts on our sleeves and where we go wrong we have a sense of pride but for the most part we seek certain we make every decision seeing that this is the guy of things we want to bless.”
Reynolds adds: “We know that we are not the creators of this game. No matter what happens, we make sure that there are such invaluable people around us. All things considered, the average Wrexham dweller learns about this game at this point in time than we will ever know.”
Trading through the promising and less encouraging seasons of being in a relationship with a Hollywood job and family can be inconvenient, but Reynolds said having Lively around as his “closest friend” and accessory has made it easier.
“I am united with my dearest friend, and that is – – I know Rob, you and Kaitlin [Olson] they are the same way. Just when that happens, you see how incredibly lucky you are,” says Reynolds. Welcome to Wrexham debuts August 24 on FX.
