Ms. Giuffre’s lawsuit cites New York’s Child Victims Law, which expands victims’ rights to prosecute alleged perpetrators. Regarding Ms. Giuffre’s allegations in 2019, Prince Andrew said they “never happened. It did not happen. I can tell you categorically that it never happened. I don’t remember meeting this woman, absolutely nothing, ”he told BBC Newsnight. In a later statement, Prince Andrew said: “I continue to unequivocally regret my ruthless association with Jeffrey Epstein.

“His suicide left many unanswered questions, especially for his victims, and I have deep compassion for everyone involved and wish for some kind of closure. I can only hope that in time they can rebuild their lives. Of course, I am ready to assist any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations if necessary. ”

The new trial alleges that the Duke and his agents have rejected requests to “produce facts, context or statements and investigate alternative approaches to dispute resolution. The BBC has contacted Buckingham Palace and representatives of the Duke of York for comment.

The lawsuit alleges that the duke se**xually assaulted Ms. Giuffre, then known as Virginia Roberts, at the London home of Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s partner, and at the Epstein homes in Manhattan and Little St James in the Virgin Islands. Maxwell has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of conspiring with Epstein in the abuse of four underage girls. He must be tried in November.

Last year, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo described the New York State Child Victims Law as a historic “path to justice” for those who claim to have been abused as minors and that it has been used to “correct errors that are not recognized and with impunity.”  It was approved in 2019 and initially allowed cases to be filed for prescription or expired charges for a period of one year. Due to the Covid pandemic, it has been extended until August 14 this year.
