Video shows man trying to steal $22K worth of merchandise from Saks Fifth Avenue in Buckhead

According to authorities, a man was arrested early Thursday for attempting to steal more than $22,000 worth of merchandise from an upscale store in Buckhead.

The thief, identified as Zabare Royale, 33, was caught on surveillance cameras taking items from the store. Police stated that they responded to the scene sometime after 1 a.m. He was arrested in the warehouse of the shoe section of the Buckhead store.

Body camera footage released by the City of Atlanta Police Department shows responding officers searching the entire store for Zabare Royale before locating him in a second-floor storage room.

In the video, at least two police officers are seen arresting the thief at gunpoint. Responding officers can be heard yelling:

“Get down, get down. Get down!”

The man, dressed in black, was handcuffed without incident. He can be seen lying on the ground as the officers place their hands behind his back and handcuff him. One of the officers checks his pockets before the Buckhead shoplifter is apprehended.

According to the authorities, Zabare Royale was accused of robbery, theft, and taking and possession of tools for the commission of a felony.

On-site security reported the Buckhead luxury store thief to the police

Around 1 a.m. Thursday, Buckhead, Atlanta police responded to a silent alarm from a Saks Fifth Avenue store located at 3440 Peachtree Road NE. According to authorities, responding officers were informed by security personnel at the scene of an intruder dressed in black.

The City of Atlanta Police Department said:

“Upon arrival, officers were met by on-site security, who informed them of a man, dressed entirely in black, who was seen on surveillance cameras walking through the store taking items and placing them in a suitcase. The officers they entered the business and began a sweep of the men’s section located on the second floor. During this time, officers located a male matching the suspect’s description in the shoe warehouse.”

According to the statement, Zabare Royale entered the Buckhead luxury store through an emergency exit door. After he was taken into custody, officers found a backpack that Royale was carrying, which contained a wire cutter, hammer, screwdriver, and other miscellaneous items that were used to enter the establishment.

Law enforcement officers also discovered more than $22,000 worth of stolen property. After his arrest, Zabare Royale was booked into the Fulton County Jail on charges of robbery and theft, among other things.
