Victor Fazio, a long-serving Democratic representative from California who became a strong pioneer for the party in the House, has died. He was 79 years old at the time. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi confirmed Fazio’s death on Wednesday, despite her team not disclosing details. After a battle of malignant growth, Fazio died surrounded by family, according to an agent in his office.
Fazio was a member of the House Appropriations and Armed Services councils from 1979 to 1999, addressing the Sacramento district. Fazio was born in Massachusetts and moved to California as a graduate student at Sacramento State University before being elected to the House of Representatives. He was even an individual from the Sacramento County Planning Commission.
He was noted for his help in environmental campaigns and his ability to secure government funding for projects in his region, for example the Vic Fazio Yolo Bypass Animal Area, a huge wetland and protected land that lies somewhere between Davis and Sacramento. President Bill Clinton officially engaged him in 1997.
Evidently, Fazio accepted his reasonable share of fire and difficulties. In 1994, when Republicans took over House responsibility for an unprecedented 40 years, he was a seat on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. He was elected leader of the House Democratic Assembly the following year and served for a long time. Fazio worked in an advertising business in Washington, DC after leaving Congress and eventually joined a legitimate company, resigning in 2020.
