Sulemana Abdul Samed of northern Ghana, who has been diagnosed with gigantism and is still growing, could be taller than Turkey’s Sultan Kösen, the world’s tallest man. Turkish Farmers are 8 feet 2.82 inches tall.

Initially, a clinic in Ghana claimed the 29-year-old man was 9 feet 6 inches. However, the doctors and nurses at the clinic were not completely sure of his measurements, as they did not have the proper tools to measure Sulemana’s height. When they found the correct tools to measure his height, it was revealed that Sulemana is 7 feet 4 inches tall, but is still growing and could surpass Sultan.

Gigantism is a rare health condition, responsible for abnormal growth in humans. The body change is most noticeable in height, but the girth of a person is also affected. Gigantism occurs when a child’s pituitary gland produces too much growth hormone, also known as somatotropin.

Who is Sulemana Abdul?

Sulemana Abdul, also known as Awuche, which means “Let’s go” in the Hausa language, is from a village in northern Ghana. After finishing high school, Sulemana moved to Accra, the capital of Ghana, to live with her brother.

She wanted to make a living there as a driver, but due to his health problems, he had to return to her town. Sulemana remembers waking up one morning and his tongue had grown so large that it was causing breathing problems.

The tallest man in Ghana is taller than most of the houses in his village, and Sulemana has become a local celebrity in the village. Doctors and nurses at a local clinic reportedly had to resort to multiple ways of measuring Sulemana’s height. They even tried to measure it with a rod and stick.

Sulemana told the BBC that from the way his height was measured, he knew that not everything was perfect. Finally, the BBC came to the rescue with a 16ft tape measure, which solved the problem. Sulemana stood against a wall during the entire process. They measured him from the crown of his head to where his feet touched the ground.

When the result was revealed, it turned out that Sulemana was actually seven feet four inches tall. So, Sulemana is a foot shorter than Sultan Kösen, the tallest man in Turkey. Sultan holds the Guinness World Records title of “tallest living man”.

However, since Sulemana is still growing, he could actually surpass Sultan’s height and secure the title of tallest man. Sulemana referred to Sultan and said that he was still growing and might even reach Sultan’s height one day. He added that he grows a little every three to four months, noting that if a person found him after three to four months, he would realize that he has grown.

However, Sulemana is not discouraged by his condition. He said:

This is how Allah chose it for me, I’m fine. I have no problem with the way God created me.” Early diagnosis of gigantism is important so that prompt treatment can help prevent or reduce changes that can cause a child to grow larger than normal. However, the changes caused by the condition can be difficult to detect. Many parents might mistake this for the normal growth a child goes through when their growth hormones first kick in.

Sulemana has Marfan Syndrome which causes an abnormally curved spine. It is a genetic disorder that affects the connective tissues of the body, resulting in abnormally long limbs. Doctors believe that Sulemana would need brain surgery to prevent his growth.
