Srichand P Hinduja Cause of Death – Career
A judge warned last year that Sri Hinduja’s needs, mainly medical care for Lewy body dementia, had been “sidelined” amid a family dispute over ownership of a Swiss bank, according to The Guardian. Until the billionaire’s death, Sri ran the family dynasty, employing 150,000 people with his brother Gopi.
The couple created the Hinduja Group from a small family business to a company that operates in 38 different countries and spans sectors such as the automotive industry, oil, and banking.
The empire then grew through landmark deals, such as the purchase of the Ashok Leyland group in 1987. This included the remnants of the unused British Leyland car business. His UK real estate assets included the impressive 67,000-square-foot (6,224-square-meter) 18th-century Carlton House Terrace, near Buckingham Palace.

‘Among other things, SP will be remembered for his great contributions to bringing India and its culture to the world stage through his work and philanthropic efforts. “SP passed away peacefully this morning, cared for by members of his family and we are at peace knowing that he will be reunited with his loving wife and son in the afterlife.”

The patriarch’s death comes after the family was embroiled in a bitter dispute as the old man’s relatives were unable to find care for him when he developed dementia.
The family rift was exposed when a senior judge revealed that he wanted to commit billionaire Srichand Parmanand Hinduja, 87, to a public nursing home because his care needs had been “marginalized”. Judge Hayden raised concerns for Hinduja’s well-being after overseeing Protection Court hearings related to a dispute over the Hinduja Group, which has interests in manufacturing, banking, chemicals, energy, media, and healthcare.

In 2014, four brothers – Srichand, 86, Gopichand, 82, Prakash, 77, and Ashok, who is in his early 70s – agreed to a pact saying that “assets in the name of any brother belong to all four”. But in 2015, Srichand tried to claim sole ownership of Hinduja Bank in Switzerland and sued his three brothers in the High Court, claiming the deal had “no legal effect.”
After Srichand developed insanity, the feud continued with his daughter, Vinoo, whom he had granted durable power of attorney over his affairs.
But Gopichand challenged the legitimacy of the power of attorney in the Protection Court in 2020, where he insisted that his brother’s dementia meant he would not have had the capacity to grant it. That battle ended after Gopichand’s lawyers said in June that the family had agreed to break the agreement.
Srichand was at the center of proceedings at the Protection Court, where judges consider issues about people who lack the mental capacity to make decisions, in London. The case made headlines in November 2022 after a judge said that, at one point during the proceedings, he had considered placing Hinduja in the public nursing home.
