In April 2014, she won both of her singles matches to help Romania beat Serbia 4-1 in the Fed Cup World Group II Play-offs (the main competition between public groups in women’s tennis). The success helped Romania gain promotion to Fed Cup World Group II.

The moment Sorana entered Australia to participate in the 2021 version of the Australian Open, she had to go through a harsh quarantine because a solo traveler on her flight tested positive for COVID-19. A warm-up match, called the Grampians Trophy, was organized for the players affected by this harsh quarantine. There, in her match against Ann Li, she encountered a strange episode in which she reported a code violation by the umpire for training. This was on the grounds that she was aggravated by repeated comments from her mentors towards her.

The 2021 Istanbul Cup was her most memorable singles title on the WTA Tour since her victory at the Tashkent Open in 2008. She had not dropped a set throughout the match. Following this success, she had climbed to number 58 in the authoritative WTA singles ranking, her most notable position since October 2018.

By January 2022, she had registered the first “two-way bagel” match (the feat of dominating a match 6-0, 6-0) of her calling in singles on the WTA Tour. She had quickly beaten Varvara Gracheva in the first round of the competition.
