Sophia Popov Wiki – Biography
Sophia Popov is a German professional golfer. She is a former player for the University of Southern California and the German National Team. She was an accomplished amateur tennis player and swimmer in Germany before deciding to focus on golf.
She attended European School Karlsruhe. She represented Germany at the Junior Solheim Cup in 2009 as well as at the 2009 European Girls’ Team Championships. She won the 2010 International European Ladies Amateur Championship, the 2008 German Championship Girls 16 and under and was second in both the 2008 German Ladies Championship and the German Girls and Boys International Championship. She was fourth at the 2008 Skandia Girls in Sweden and tied for fifth in stroke play at the 2008 Girls British Open Amateur Championship (she was a quarterfinalist in match play) and was 16th there in 2007.
In 2015, Popov was part of the German broadcast team for German television during the Solheim Cup. Between 2016 and 2020, she played on the Symetra Tour, where she had a best of four runner-up finishes: 2016 Chico’s Patty Berg Memorial, 2016 Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic, 2017 Tullymore Classic and 2020 Founders Tribute at Longbow.
In 2016, she qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open at CordeValle, where she finished last of those making the cut, and in 2018 she played in the Women’s PGA Championship at Kemper Lakes, finishing tied for 57th place.
