Shawn King is the wife of Larry King. He was an American television host, radio host, and paid spokesman, whose work was recognized with awards including two Peabodys, an Emmy award, and 10 Cable ACE Awards.
She is a singer, actress, and TV host.
A CBS staff announcer, whom King met by chance, suggested he go to Florida which was a growing media market with openings for inexperienced broadcasters. King went to Miami, and after initial setbacks, he gained his first job in radio. The manager of a small station, WAHR (now WMBM) in Miami Beach, hired him to clean up and perform miscellaneous tasks. When one of the station’s announcers abruptly quit, King was put on the air. His first broadcast was on May 1, 1957, working as the disc jockey from 9 a.m. to noon. He also did two afternoon newscasts and a sportscast. He was paid $50 a week.
He acquired the name Larry King when the general manager, Marshall Simmonds, claimed that Zeiger was too ethnic and difficult to remember, so minutes before airtime, Larry chose the surname King, which he got from an advertisement in the Miami Herald for King’s Wholesale Liquor. Within two years, he legally changed his name to Larry King.

In 1997, he married his seventh wife, Shawn Southwick, born in 1959 (as Shawn Ora Engemann), a singer, actress, and TV host. They wed in King’s Los Angeles hospital room three days before King underwent heart surgery to clear a clogged blood vessel. The couple had two children: Chance, born March 1999, and Cannon, born May 2000. He was stepfather to Arena Football League quarterback Danny Southwick. On King and Southwick’s 10th anniversary in September 2007, Southwick joked she was “the only [wife] to have lasted into the two digits”.
Shawn King Divorce
Just last month, it was reported that Larry King agreed to pay Shawn King $33,000 per month in spousal support. He also had agreed to pay her a one-time lump sum of $20,000, according to court documents obtained by Page Six.
The agreement was meant to be temporary, until the two met in court in April of this year.
As for Larry King’s reason for filing for divorce, he previously stated that the 26-year age gap between himself and Shawn caused some issued. He also said that she was a “religious Mormon” and he was an “agnostic atheist” which caused “little problems.” At the end of the day, Larry said that he and Shawn just “didn’t get along.”
In September 2019, Shawn King chatted with Daily Mail TV about her husband’s divorce filing, saying she was completely devastated by it.
“He’s going through a lot right now… his health issues, that can really shake you to your core, it shook me to my core to see him so vulnerable and he doesn’t remember two solid weeks of time. It’s life, it’s real, it’s not fun,” she said at the time, getting emotional. “I’m sad, I never expected to be at this place in my life, in our lives and have this happen in such a public way. I don’t think, again I’m not in Larry’s head, I refuse to believe that he intended to humiliate me. It’s strange, I can’t quite wrap my head around it, but it is what it is… it hurts,” she added.
Larry King’s Son, Andy, Died
Larry King adopted his son, Andy, after marrying Andy’s mom, Alene Akins.
On July 28, 2020, Andy, whose real name was Louis Andrew King, died following a heart attack. At the time of his death, Larry King was too ill to travel to Florida for the burial services. He watched the service via video. Andy was buried in Gainsville, Florida, “Buddhist-style funeral,” according to the Daily Mail.
Andy’s daughter, Jillian, told the Daily Mail that her grandfather was very upset at the time. She went on to talk about the grief that she was feeling, following the death of her dad.
“I was out of town because my husband’s father had passed away so we were up in Kentucky taking care of his funeral when I heard the news. My dad passed away July 28. We’re assuming it was a heart attack but there wasn’t ever an autopsy. I was in disbelief when I heard. Chaia, with everything she was going through, was more expected. At least we had time to prepare. But there was no warning with him. It was a shock,” Jillian told the outlet. Chaia, King’s daughter and Jillian’s aunt, had been battling lung cancer at the time.

Larry King, the award-winning TV and radio host, died Saturday morning, January 23, at the age of 87, per his Twitter account. King died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, his account tweeted. No cause of death was given, but King had been hospitalized for more than a week with COVID-19, according to CNN.

King was a nationally syndicated radio host, and he he was a prominent nightly house on CNN from 1985 through 2010. Over the years, King conducted various celebrity interviews, political debates and discussions. In total, he had an estimated 50,000 on-air interviews, per the Associated Press.
“For 63 years and across the platforms of radio, television and digital media, Larry’s many thousands of interviews, awards, and global acclaim stand as a testament to his unique and lasting talent as a broadcaster,” his Twitter continued. “Additionally, while it was his name appearing in the shows’ titles, Larry always viewed his interview subjects as the true stars of his programs, and himself as merely an unbiased conduit between the guest and audience. Whether he was interviewing a U.S. president, foreign leader, celebrity, scandal-ridden personage, or an everyman, Larry liked to ask short, direct, and uncomplicated questions. He believed concise questions usually provided the best answers, and he was not wrong in that belief.”
Cause of Death
No cause of death has been given yet, but King suffered from various ailments, including lung cancer. King revealed he was diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer in September 2017, per Extra. “The reason I go public with it is to tell people, ‘Get a chest X-ray,’” he said. “If I had not had the chest X-ray, it would have progressed.”
