Sharyn Briscoe is the principal of the Atlanta Public Schools. According to her LinkedIn profile of hers, she was educated at Spelman College, a historically black liberal arts college, also in Atlanta. The school’s website indicates that Briscoe traveled to Atlanta from New Jersey to attend Spelman College and Georgia State University.
She worked as an elementary teacher, model lead teacher, assistant principal, and principal before joining Morris Brandon’s team in 2013. Spending time with students and watching them succeed is her favorite part of her Briscoe job. TJ and Marley, hers two of hers, live with her in Candler Park.
Last year, Kila Posey learned that the elementary school will divide black students into two classrooms, each with two instructors, and white students into six classrooms, each with six teachers. Kila Posey, who filed a federal complaint against Mary Lin Elementary School, claims that Principal Sharyn Briscoe, who is also black, told her that she put the practice in its place because she thought it was in the best interest of the students. Mary Lin Elementary School allegedly placed black students in two separate classes with two separate teachers. The white students were reportedly placed in six classes with six different teachers. Posey contacted the deputy director who allegedly defended the situation.
