Jessica’s 18-year-old brother, Justice, was shot and killed in 2017, according to WOAI. Jessica’s father told WOAI his daughter was a fifth-generation member of the military. Mayo Mitchell said he learned of her death on his own father’s birthday.
Cause of Death
Firefighters responding to a car crash along I-10 discovered Mitchell’s body, WOAI-TV in San Antonio reported, citing police. Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) released a statement saying Mitchell’s death is being investigated by the local police and the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division.
The statement said Mitchell, assigned to the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence on JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, was pronounced dead at University Hospital San Antonio around 3 a.m. Friday. Mitchell, 30, a dental specialist, was shot multiple times, the medical examiner’s office said.

The driver’s side door and window of the Dodge Challenger she was found in was riddled with bullet holes, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
“She was a beautiful, beautiful woman, she had a son and he’s without his mom and I just want to give my prayers to his to her family, to her son, to her son’s father,” Toby said.
“I told all my children, I want you to do better than what I have done,” Mayo Mitchell said. “She wanted to be the best that she can be in her military career. But that was cut short.”
Maj. Gen. Dennis LeMaster said he was “devastated by the tragic loss” of Mitchell.
“Our sincere condolences go out to her family and friends,” Le Master said. “We are focused on supporting Drill Sergeant Mitchell’s family as well as her soldiers during this extremely difficult time.”
Investigation Report
“It was the same video of her party and having a good time being Jessica, you know, ringing in the new year and then that’s, you know that shortly after it you know, it was just taken from her for no reason,” Ashley said.
Homicide detectives are investigating Mitchell’s death, but cops have yet to arrest anyone or name suspects.
The San Antonio Police Department and the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division are jointly looking into her murder, KSAT reported.
