On Sunday, April 9, 2023, at around 6am local time, Sayed Elnakib, a prominent imam, was betrayed while leading supplications at the Omar Mosque in New Jersey. The suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Serif Zorba. The imam was rushed to a nearby emergency clinic. Around 200 people were available in aid where the outage occurred.
According to the observation video, Zorba was seen turning around and running towards the entrance after injuring Sayed Elnakib. The fans, however, held him until the police showed up and arrested him. Elnakib, 65, had some serious injuries, however, he was declared stable at the emergency clinic.
Serif Zorba is currently being held in the Bergen District Prison and has to deal with penalties for attempted murder and weapons offences. He supposedly had come to the mosque before.
The disastrous episode occurred on April 9, 2023 AM, the time when the Imam was conducting the Fajr petitions at the Omar Mosque in Paterson. A man ran up to the imam and betrayed him. The equivalent has also been found on the observation film that captured the entire event.
Sayed Elnakib, 65, suffered injuries, including liver damage. A representative of the mosque also claimed this. However, the imam was proclaimed to be in stable condition.
Zorba should have been visible as a 6-foot-3 man in a white hoodie, present among the fans who were there at the mosque for God’s administration of Ramadan petition. Reconnaissance film caught him chasing Elnakib backwards as they all dropped to their knees and bowed their heads.
The admirers did not care about their own safety and on second thought they controlled the attacker who had recently gone after their beloved Imam Sayed Elnakib. New Jersey State Police officers captured Zorba.
A part of the group of people called Sikander Khan said that the assault on Sayed Elnakib happened shortly after the morning petitions to heaven began. Khan also referenced the imam needing to undergo a medical procedure after the attack, saying:
“No one really knew him. We have no idea what the thought process behind his activity is. He would come in and sit isolated from anyone else and not really talk to anyone.”
Specialists have yet to find the intent behind the assault on the imam. Another imam expressed that the episode was separated. The specialists discovered that Zorba was not an individual from the mosque, but that he had implored earlier in the Omar Mosque.
