Serge Onik, who appeared on Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance season 11, died at the age of 33. The cause of his death is unknown. Onik’s representative, Jim Keith, president of The Movement Talent Agency, confirmed his death in a statement sent to E! News, and EW.

Onik was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine before moving to the US when he was 3 years old. He started dancing at age 9 while taking part in a Russian cultural program where he was taught the language, culture, and dances that he had to perform on stage.

Three years later, he joined the ballroom dancing craze that he immersed in for 18 years as a competitor. That same year, Onik competed on season 11 of So You Think You Can Dance and also worked as a choreographer on Dancing With The Stars working closely with Meryl Davis and Maks Chmerkovskiy that same year.

He met many of the professional dancers from the hit ABC dance competition series as a dancer on Sway: A Dance Trilogy, including Chmerkovskiy, Peta Murgatroyd, Sharna Burgess, and Artem Chigvintsev. His lifelong friend of his, Elena Grinenko, mourned the loss of Onik on social media with a photo of the couple as children.

Serge Onik, the Ukrainian-born dancer, passed away at the age of 33 on August 24. Onik’s death was confirmed by Movement Talent Agency, the firm that represented the popular dancer. Onik is perhaps best known for his appearance on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ season 11, where he was eliminated in week 4. Jim Keith, president of Movement Talent Agency, told Entertainment Weekly: “He was an amazing dancer with a big heart and touched the lives of everyone who knew him. We will miss him so much. This is a sad day for us at the agency. And for the dance community as a whole. ” He did not provide further details. Born in Kharkov, Ukraine, Onik moved to the United States with his family when he was just 3 years old. He later trained in ballroom dancing, before achieving fame with SYTYCD.
