Serafim Sabaranskiy was a pleased Jew and a boy from the Ukraine. The 29-year-old, a functional individual from the Hillel side in his old Kharkiv neighborhood, saw the conflict approaching early. Therefore, he bought battle gear on February 23, a day before the Russian intrusion began, and when the battle began, he signed up for the army protecting the city.
His brothers who accompanied him in the conflict say that he saved the lives of some. Unfortunately, Serafim Sabaranskiy died in real life on Sunday, March 13, 2022, when one of the recently fired Russian rockets came close to his position.
Serafim Sabaranskiy showed his characteristic determination in a short video interview captured about seven days before his death. Outfitted and in a makeshift uniform, the redheaded Sabaranskiy is seen on a city street addressing the camera with a reaction to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statement that his powers are trying to “denazify” Ukraine.
“How can you trust these cases? I am Jewish and I am protected in Ukraine. I don’t need to bother with your help. Escape from the Ukraine,” Sabaranskiy says in the video, according to an interpretation by Yuliya Pototska. Yuliya Pototska is the head of Hillel in Kharkiv, which was recently leveled by Russian bombs.
