Sean Rios Wiki – Sean Rios Biography

Sean Rios was fatally wounded Monday afternoon as he responded to a call of shots fired at an intersection in north Houston, KSAT reported.

Rios, a 25-year department vet, traded gunfire with a suspect and was struck in the exchange, prompting him to run for help at a nearby motel, where he died just after paramedics arrived.

Family, Wife, and Children

Acevedo said Rios leaves behind four children – ages 17, 14, 12 and 9 years old – as well as his parents, a brother, and two cousins, who are HPD detectives.

“We will never forget him and will see his 4 children, family and friends through this painful loss,” Acevedo tweeted.

Cause of Death

Rios became the fourth member of HPD to die in the line of duty, and the second in the last three weeks. Last month, Sgt. Harold Preston, who was slated to retire this year after 41 years in HPD, died when he responded to a domestic dispute.

Officer Jason Knox died back in May 2020 when the HPD helicopter he was on went down. And in December 2019, Sgt. Christopher Brewster was shot and killed while confronting a domestic violence suspect in Houston’s East End.

The Houston Fire Department also lost one of their own as a result of a violent act. Arson investigator Lemuel Bruce died while pursuing a suspect.

Acevedo told reporters two vehicles were involved in the shooting — a blue Mercedes that was later seized by police and a black pickup truck — while promising that a “heavily tattooed” suspect in his mid- to late 30s would be tracked down by authorities, CNN reported.

“We’re going to capture you,” Acevedo said. “So, do yourself a favor and turn yourself in because we are going to catch you. We have leads and we’re going to catch you. And the best thing you can do if you know this person is have them turn themselves in or call the police, so we have no more bloodshed.”

A message seeking comment early Tuesday from Houston police about possible arrests in the ongoing investigation was not immediately returned.

Rios is the fourth Houston officer killed in the line of duty since December and the second in the last three weeks, according to CNN.

Rios’ body was escorted late Monday to a medical examiner’s office, where fellow officers paid their respects during a tribute to him, video shows.

Investigation Report

While the incident is still under investigation and a suspect is still on the run, Acevedo stated Rios was on his way to the airport for the start of his shift when the gunfight took place.

He was shot multiple times, later running to the nearby Taj Inn & Suites where he looked for help. He collapsed and later died at the scene.
