Sam spent his early life in his hometown of Sacramento, and then in his teen years moved to Portland, Oregon with his parents. He was educated at David Douglas High School and later enrolled at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington. While he was there he undertook an acting course that lasted two years and it was during this time that he was cast as the lead in the musical “Guys and Dolls”. When the reviews came out, Sam rose to stardom and it was suggested to him that he pursue acting as a professional career.
