Ryan Zimmerman remains were not identified until last year. Authorities said a second suspect committed suicide when officers moved to arrest her. Ohio police say they charged a woman in connection with the death of a 22-year-old man who was reported missing in 2015 and found dead in a western Ohio state park two months later.

In January of the following year, a woman walking her dog in Grand Lake St Marys State Park stumbled upon mutilated human remains, but detectives were unable to identify the body. It wasn’t until last year that forensic tests that compared water samples from the bones with dirt samples from around the country pointed investigators toward Corbin, Kentucky. Zimmerman’s missing person report matched the body, and his parents’ DNA matched.
Mercer County (Ohio) Sheriff Jeff Gray said Thursday morning that Sarah Buzzard, 33, and his wife Naria Jenna Whittaker were named suspects. WPTA reported. Buzzard was arrested Wednesday on four counts of tampering with evidence, one count of grand car theft and two counts of abuse of a corpse. There are likely more charges, he said.
When police moved to arrest Whittaker on similar charges, Gray said, he pulled a pistol from his purse and shot himself in front of officers. WANE reported. WANE said Zimmerman had moved in with Buzzard and her ex-husband shortly after moving to Columbus. He met them on social media, Gray said.

The sheriff said investigators served multiple search warrants against tech companies, including some that Gray admitted he had never heard of. Based on the evidence they found, they determined where Zimmerman was killed and that the possible suspects lived in Marion, Indiana. They also interviewed a witness who lives in North Carolina.
Police have not released a motive for the case. Buzzard is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
