Basel (Switzerland), September 15 (IANS) Roger Federer, the 20-time major home run singles champion, announced his retirement from top-level tennis on Thursday, saying the Laver Cup will be his last visit to the ATP. The 41-year-old has not played since Wimbledon 2021, after which he had a third knee injury.
“Laver Cup in a month will be my last visit to the ATP. I will not play any more big home runs or on the road,” the tennis extraordinaire said in an explanation on Twitter. “I have striven to return to the structure complete and serious. In any case, I also know my body’s capacity and breaking point. I am 41 years old and have played more than 1,500 matches in 24 years.

Tennis has treated me generously more than I could have ever imagined and I must realize when I must end my serious vocation. I will play more tennis, of course, but not big home runs and on the road. It’s a contradictory choice,” he added.
Only Spain’s Rafael Nadal, with 22 majors, and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, with 21, have more huge-homer men’s singles titles than Federer.
