Rich Strike did not enter the Kentucky Derby field until Friday morning, when Ethereal Road withdrew from the race in the penultimate hour, allowing the first “also qualified” to enter.
His last start was in the Jeff Ruby Steaks at Turfway Park when he finished third behind Derby, also with Tiz the Bomb and Tawny Port. In 2022, each of the three made his start on Turfway’s constructed hustling track.
