This was India’s fourth progressive appearance in the competition finals following unsuccessful efforts in 2016 and 2020 and a triumphant mission in 2018.

This was also the fifth time India had lifted the award after triumphant missions in 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018.

Two or three months before this, in December 2021, Rajvardhan was a key part of the Indian team that had won the 2021 ACC (Asian Cricket Council) U19 Asia Cup. This was the eighth time that India had won this opposition of the 9 versions that were played.

In the second match of India’s reunion stage of the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, against Ireland, he had scored 39 runs off just 17 balls (counting 5 sixes).

He had hit 6, 6, 6 and 4 in the last 4 parts of India’s innings to take the pool score from 285/5 to 307/5.

He had then posted paltry figures of 1/17 out of 7 overs to help the group to a gargantuan run of 174 wins.

In the next game, India’s final meeting stage match, against Uganda, he was unable to bat as India amassed a score of 405/5 from 50 overs, outscoring Uganda by 326 runs.

This was the second largest win advantage throughout the entire existence of the junior ODIs. However, he played a minor role in playing with the ball, getting 2/8 in just 3 overs as Uganda fell to 79 runs usually in under 20 overs.

In the semi-final of the competition, against Australia, he had knocked over a car that had been clocked at 141.7kph, obscuring his previous record of 139.3kph.

Speeds in this range are considered fast enough at the senior world level in men’s cricket, but are extraordinary at the under-19 level.
