Price Tunstall, 24, was taken to Jacobi Medical Center and pronounced dead, authorities said. His 22-year-old brother, Malik Tunstall, was taken to the same hospital in critical condition, police and sources said. The duo was arrested in January 2020 on a federal narcotics conspiracy charge as part of an 11-member gang takedown at Monroe Homes, prosecutors said.
Price and Malik were allegedly part of the violent Monroe Houses Crew that operated out of the housing complex. Members of the gang sold drugs, committed robberies, shot rivals, possessed illegal firearms and one man was even charged with murder, according to federal prosecutors in Manhattan.
At least five other people, including a 65-year-old woman, were injured in other shootings in Brooklyn, Queens and Upper Manhattan on Tuesday night, law enforcement sources said. Both were released on bond with ankle monitoring devices as their case made its way through Manhattan Federal Court. Cops charged Johnson, who cops say is part of a rival gang, of murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, assault and possession of weapons. His arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court was pending Wednesday.
Johnson served four years in prison after being convicted of one count of attempted murder in the Bronx in 2016. He was released from prison last year and is on probation until 2025, according to state Department of Correction records. “There was a terrible shooting last night in the Bronx,” NYPD Police Commissioner Dermot Shea told PIX11 News Wednesday morning. Two brothers were shot. (The shooter) was just out on probation for another shooting. ”
“The cycle of gun, gang and non-consequence violence is what needs to be interrupted,” added Shea.
