Pete Way Wiki – Biography
Pete Way (born Peter Frederick Way) was an English bass player. He was best known as the bassist in UFO and as a founding member of Waysted and Fastway. He also notably played with Michael Schenker Group and Ozzy Osbourne.
Way helped start UFO in 1968 and performed on their first 10 studio albums – from 1970’s UFO 1 to 1982’s Mechanix – before departing with the idea of forming Fastway with Motorhead guitarist “Fast” Eddie Clark.
Label contract problems forced him to leave Fastway, however, before they could record their 1983 debut. Way formed his own band after a brief stint playing with his good friend Ozzy Osbourne on the Speak of the Devil tour.
He returned to UFO six years later, and ultimately served as their bass player for more than 30 years before health issues forced him off the road prior to a tour in support of 2009’s The Visitor.

Pete Way died on August 14, 2020, at the age of 69, following life-threatening injuries he had sustained in an accident two months earlier.
His death was announced in a Facebook post on his official Facebook page. The post said: “Iconic bass player Pete Way founder of UFO, Waysted and, latterly, The Pete Way Band has died. He sustained life-threatening injuries in an accident two months ago but fought hard until finally succumbing to those injuries at 11.35 am BST today [August 14, 2020]. His wife, Jenny, was at his side.

“Pete Way was a much loved and highly regarded figure among rock fans, critics and fellow musicians alike. Best known for his work with UFO, Pete’s energetic live performances were at the heart of the band’s countless world tours. His melodic bass lines underpinned the catalog of enduring rock classics upon which UFO’s reputation and legacy were founded. Pete’s post UFO work included collaborating with “Fast” Eddie Clarke from Motörhead – the two putting together Fastway with Humble Pie drummer Jerry Shirley and bassist for his long time friend, Ozzy Osbourne.
“He then put together his own band Waysted. Pete’s keen ear for song arrangements has also seen him serve as producer for popular hard rock acts such as Twisted Sister and the Cockney Rejects. Pete had recently finished a solo album, “Walking On The Edge” with producer Mike Clink (Guns n Roses “Appetite For Destruction” amongst many more.) He had a biography published “A Fast Ride Out Of Here” in 2017 and an album “Amphetamine” which is currently out on Cargo Records.
